Thousands of bikes have been pictured piled up in Xiamen after being cleared by the municipal authorities. Dockless bike sharing schemes are huge in China but the third biggest company Bluegogo just went bust and many are wondering if the current model is sustainable. Chinese companies are now operating similar schemes in the US, UK and Australia.

They produced way to many. Supply and demand. And appallingly mismanaged. Young keen Chinese entrepreneurs sniff the exciting chance of success. Chinese uniqueness gives them the chance, but doesn’t offer them checks or balances. They massively overstep. Bust.

Xiamen has @Mobike but no bike lane. You either ride with speeding cars or slow pedestrians.

Bike sharing market competition is fierce and cruel. Bluegogo has reportedly laid off most of its employees and its boss is now said to be abroad. They were once the 3rd largest in the industry.
